Sheffield United beat Stoke City 2-1 at the bet365 Stadium, climbing from 19th to 17th in the Championship table.

Jairo Riedewald broke the deadlock in the 47th minute, turning in from close range after a scramble. Thomas Cannon then tucked a second from Harrison Burrows' corner routine (53.).

Mark Robins' changes sparked a response and Ben Wilmot halved the deficit with a finish from inside the six-yard box (65.). Stoke kept pushing, forcing a run of corners as the visitors sat deeper.

The Blades' defence stood firm in the closing stages. Ben Pearson was shown a straight red card for Stoke (88.), blunting the hosts' late momentum.

The Blades registered 15 attempts, with 13 coming from inside the box. Stoke had 53.5% possession and produced three efforts on target from seven attempts.

Next up, Stoke visit Hull in the Championship on New Year's Day. The Blades host Leicester next.
