Sheffield United have announced that women's team manager Ash Thompson has been suspended by the club.

The manager was absent for his side's 4-0 defeat at home to Sunderland with assistant Luke Turner in the dugout instead.

"Sheffield United Women confirms that Luke Turner takes charge of the senior women’s team on an interim basis, with Ash Thompson currently unavailable," a club spokesman told The Guardian with no reason yet given for the decision.

Thompson took over from former manager Jonathan Morgan, who was sacked by Sheffield United due to conduct at a previous club in the wake of the death of player Maddie Cusack.

The Blades will be back in action with Turner in charge on Sunday when they travel to face Newcastle United.
