According to Football Insider, the 26-year-old has potential suitors as he approaches the end of his current contract.

Wilks has been a regular presence this season while on loan with Rotherham United, contributing seven goals and three assists from 37 appearances in League One.

And now he could depart Hillsborough in the summer on a permanent basis, with his deal set to expire in June after three years with the Yorkshire outfit.

It has been reported that Wilks is attracting interest from clubs such as Levski Sofia, Konyaspor and Aris Limassol.

The forward has been unable to cement himself as an important part of the Sheffield Wednesday squad under Danny Rohl, which led to him going out on loan last summer.

Wilks’ performances in League One have been solid, scoring seven times in a struggling Rotherham side.

However, he is now going into the summer with an uncertain future, with a move abroad potentially on the cards.

It remains to be seen what the player’s preference will be for the next step in his career, with a move away from Sheffield Wednesday likely.

It’s uncertain whether the Millers would be keen on a permanent move for the 26-year-old following his performances while on loan.

Sheffield Wednesday league position

Sheffield Wednesday have fared well without Wilks in the squad this season, with Danny Rohl’s side sitting 14th in the table.

The Owls are solidly mid-table with only a few games remaining in the campaign, 11 points clear of the bottom three and 10 behind the top six.

This has left them in a position with little left to play for as we approach the final weeks.

Next up for Sheffield Wednesday is a trip to face relegation-threatened Stoke City on Friday afternoon in a 3pm kick-off.

Wilks move abroad could be an exciting step forward

Wilks’ departure from Sheffield Wednesday is surely inevitable given how little game time he received prior to his loan move.

While he’s done solidly in League One this season, he’s not done enough to justify keeping him at Hillsborough.

But a move abroad to Bulgaria or Cyprus could be an exciting next step in his career, as he reaches his peak years.

It could be an adventure to play in such a brand new environment, and could even lead to playing in European competition next season, which sides in League One cannot provide.
