Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has dismissed the idea that they over-celebrated following their 3-0 win over bitter rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has dismissed the idea that they over-celebrated the 3-0 derby win at Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.
The Blades ran out comfortable winners in the Steel City derby, with two goals from Tyrese Campbell and a late Tom Cannon effort securing the bragging rights for the red-and-white side of the city after what was a dominant performance from start to finish.
After the game, the Sheffield United squad, and Wilder, enjoyed themselves in front of the away end, which included taking a picture with the supporters in the background.

That didn’t go down well with some, and former Wednesday attacker Josh Windass was among those who felt the Blades were going over the top, particularly as they remained in the relegation zone despite the win.
Yet, when asked about the criticism they received, Wilder told the Sheffield Star that they were simply enjoying the moment.
“What can you do? How can you win? What do you want us to do? Just walk straight back down the tunnel? It’s just absolute nonsense in my opinion. So, I don't even have to answer. We don't have to justify anything.
“We won a local derby. We've won a few recently. We want to keep that rolling. And there are some layers to it as well. There were a couple of bits and pieces that you find out afterwards as well. A few words said in the tunnel before that I didn't realise had been said, and a few words said afterwards as well.”
There are often debates about over-celebrating nowadays, but the reality is that nobody connected to Sheffield United will care too much about what has been said.
The reality is that this is the biggest fixture in the Championship for both Sheffield clubs, and, no matter their situation in the league, it’s the one they want to win most.

As a boyhood fan, Wilder recognises that, so he is well within his rights to take it all in after his team had produced a fantastic display to pick up all three points. Likewise, you would expect Sheffield Wednesday to have done the same if they were victorious.
Of course, it was still only three points, and Wilder will be aware that his side still have a lot of work to do this season, as they remain in the bottom three after a hugely disappointing campaign so far.
So, he will be reminding the players of that, but he will hope that the manner of the victory at Hillsborough can act as a springboard for the Blades as they look to build momentum and start picking up results on a consistent basis.
It certainly won’t have done the confidence of the players any harm either, and winning the derby is always going to help form a connection with the supporters.
