Sheffield Wednesday's woes could continue well into next season with the possibility that the team picks up another points deduction.
Financial issues have meant that the Owls have struggled in the Championship season, something that has been compounded by 18 points deducted over the course of the campaign.
However, relegation to League One doesn't mean Wednesday will avoid any further punishment. According to Sky Sports, the club could start next season with a 15-point penalty due to none of the new prospective owners being willing to pay £15 million owed to Dejphon Chansiri.
EFL rules require creditors must be paid with 'football creditors' needing to be repaid in full and 'other creditors' a quarter of the outstanding total, with Chansiri falling into the latter category.
A 15-point penalty would make it very difficult for the Owls to bounce back up to the Championship next year, with the club last being promoted to the second tier via the play-offs in 2023.
