FLW's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit has given his verdict on the latest developments involving John Textor amid his previous attempt to buy the club
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
John Textor could be set to lose control of Botafogo just months after being linked with a takeover of Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County.
According to L’Equipe the American businessman is on the verge of losing control of a second club in his portfolio after previously ceding possession of Lyon.
Textor also previously owned a stake in Crystal Palace, but he sold his part of the club in the summer in a deal worth a reported £190 million.
The 60-year-old was linked with a takeover of Sheffield Wednesday prior to the Owls going into administration in October.
It was also reported that Textor wanted to purchase the Rams in late 2025, although no deal ultimately came to fruition.

When asked if he is glad Textor won’t be involved with the club’s ownership, FLW’s Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna claimed that it is a good thing he is no longer in contention to replace Dejphon Chansiri.
He believes that the American is too chaotic, and that being a part of a broader footballing portfolio wouldn’t have been ideal, while also suggesting he may have even struggled to pass the EFL’s Owners and Directors test.
“I think it is a good thing that he hasn’t been in contention to take us over because it does seem that it’s chaotic with him,” McKenna told Football League World.
“Constant problems as he’s always trying to juggle different football clubs.
“It just never seems to go smoothly.
“So, after the horrors of Chansiri, you’re looking for stability and a well run club, and you couldn’t rely on that from Textor.
“So I don’t think I’d have been up for seeing where we were next in his footballing portfolio.
“As well, I think he would’ve had passing the EFL test.
“Now, the preferred bidder at the minute, they may well not pass, but I don’t think Textor would’ve been on to be able to take the club.
“I’m sure he will still be about looking to take over more clubs, but it probably is a good thing that one of them isn’t Sheffield Wednesday.”
The consortium led by James Bord were named as the preferred bidder in December, but they are still awaiting ratification from the EFL in order to complete the takeover.
The Owls are set to be relegated to League One this season, with the club sitting bottom of the table on minus seven points.
The gap to safety is already 37 points, with Henrik Pedersen’s side struggling for results on the pitch.
The Dane will still be hoping to strengthen his first team squad before the 2 February transfer deadline next week.

Chaos surrounds Textor everywhere he goes in football, and any supporter will be hoping he goes nowhere near their club.
It remains to be seen how the Bord-led bid to buy Sheffield Wednesday will do with the club once the takeover is ratified by the EFL.
But Textor would not have made a strong alternative, as evidenced by this latest development involving his ownership of Botafogo in Brazil.
He has been unpopular wherever he’s been, and going from Chansiri to the 60-year-old would’ve been one disaster into another.
