Sheffield Wednesday are eyeing an emergency loan deal after an injury to Murphy Cooper
Sheffield Wednesday are considering an emergency loan approach for Seny Dieng ahead of their clash with Sheffield United.
According to The Star, an injury to Murphy Cooper has left the Owls in need of a goalkeeper, with a lack of squad depth meaning that the only other options are untested age-group players.
Cooper is the latest fitness issue for Henrik Pedersen’s side, who are already without Pierce Charles.
This could open the door for an emergency loan deal, which is allowed within the EFL’s rules, despite the transfer window being closed.
Any emergency loan move can last for seven days, and can be renewed for an additional seven days at a time until any injured players make a return to action.

Sheffield Wednesday are considering an approach to Middlesbrough to sign Dieng on loan following Cooper’s injury issue.
It’s believed that the goalkeeper could be available to fill in the role, with the Senegal international currently out of favour at the Riverside.
The 31-year-old has not made a single appearance in the Championship this season, with the Teesside outfit chasing promotion to the Premier League.
His last game for the club came on 10 December 2024, as he played in a 3-1 loss to Leeds United.
Cooper has no immediate return date at Hillsborough following his latest injury issue, and Charles is expected to be absent for a number of weeks.
This will give Dieng the opportunity to stake a claim for Senegal’s World Cup squad, so he will likely be eager to make the move after spending the last year out of the Middlesbrough side.
Sheffield Wednesday are bottom of the Championship table, and could be officially relegated to League One this weekend.
The Owls will face bitter rivals Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on 22 February in a 12pm kick-off, and they will be hoping Dieng is in the side by then.

Dieng has been out of the Middlesbrough team this season, but he is an experienced Championship goalkeeper and would be a great addition in Pedersen’s team.
Given the club have very little notice to find an emergency signing for Sunday’s game, this would be a very smart piece of business if they can get it done in time.
Dieng will also surely be keen to get back into action with this switch, and he’s not in Hellberg’s plans at the Riverside, so this has the potential to work out well for everyone.
However, it is a blow for Cooper to be absent with injury, and Sheffield Wednesday’s fitness issues remain a real obstacle this season.
