Pierce Charles' future is the subject of speculation going into the final weeks of the transfer window.
Sheffield Wednesday are demanding up to £8 million for Pierce Charles amid interest from Southampton, Leicester City and Rangers.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, the goalkeeper’s future is up in the air with clubs circling around his future.
Charles has impressed for the Owls, and looks set to be their first-choice goalkeeper for the new Championship season at the age of just 20.
The Northern Irishman broke into the Sheffield Wednesday first team squad at the end of last season under Danny Rohl, featuring eight times in the league as the side finished 12th in the table.
Sheffield Wednesday will have a fight on their hands to keep Charles this summer after his breakout into the first-team squad.
It has been claimed by Alan Nixon on Sunday that Championship rivals Southampton and Leicester are both keen on the shot-stopper.
The two English sides will also face competition from Scottish giants Rangers in the race for the 20-year-old’s signature.
But Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly set an asking price of £8 million even with their current financial difficulties behind the scenes.
It’s understood that the Owls are going to hold firm in their stance despite struggling for cash, which has led to the late payment of wages in the last several months.
Charles made his debut for the club in an FA Cup clash against Coventry City in January 2024, before earning more cup minutes last season.
The goalkeeper’s first league appearance came against Cardiff City on 29 March earlier this year.
If Sheffield Wednesday can hold onto Charles, then it’s likely he will be the first-choice option between the sticks this season in Pedersen’s squad this season.
He is set to start against the Foxes this afternoon in their opening league fixture, which gets underway at 4.30pm.
While there is an obvious need to raise funds that could predicate a sale of Charles, it would be a massive blow to lose him this summer.
If they can figure out a way to keep going financially while holding onto him, then that must be Sheffield Wednesday's priority.
It will be difficult, and player sales of some kind will surely be necessary before the 1 September deadline.
£8 million coming in would be a massive boost financially, but Charles is someone with a lot of potential, and he could prove a very important part of the team in the coming campaign.
