West Brom owner Shilen Patel has praised Mark Miles after it was confirmed the managing director would be leaving next week after over 20 years at the club.

It has been a summer of change at The Hawthorns as Patel prepares for his first full season running the club, with Ryan Mason named as the new boss.

A high turnover of players followed in the market, but a positive start to the campaign, with Albion sitting second in the table, suggests it could turn out to be a promising season for the club.

Albion have confirmed another high-profile change at the club, as it has been announced that Miles is leaving his role as managing director. He has been at the club since 2003, as well as being the director and trustee of The Albion Foundation.

So, Miles has seen a lot over the years, and he explained how he had achieved his objective of stabilising the club and leaving them in good hands after Patel bought the Baggies in February 2024.

And, Patel explained to the BBC the role that Miles played in helping him understand what Albion is all about, as well as highlighting his influence in ensuring the club came through more difficult periods in the past.

It’s obviously not ideal for a key off-field figure to depart, but Miles’ words indicate that it was part of the plan, and he is leaving the club in a healthy position under Patel.

Patel inherited Albion when they were in a mess, but they have made major strides in the past 18 months, with the club now in a much stronger financial situation.

Of course, fans will ultimately judge the club by what happens on the pitch, and the early signs are positive under Mason.

So, fans will have full faith in the current regime, and whilst Miles will be missed, and his contribution appreciated, it’s clear they are in the right hands with Patel to kick-on in the years to come.
