According to Glorioso 1904, Sidny Lopes Cabral delivered one of the 2026 World Cup’s standout moments with a superb strike against Argentina. Cape Verde were beaten after extra time.
In extra time with Argentina 2-1 ahead, the former Benfica winger collected on the left, beat his marker and guided his shot into the far corner. Argentina later struck again to win 3-2.
His rise has been rapid. A year ago he joined Estrela da Amadora from Germany’s third tier, moved to Benfica within months, then switched again to Trabzonspor in Türkiye.
The World Cup goal underlines his excellent form and the faith shown in his potential.
Benfica signed him from Estrela da Amadora in January for 6 million euros, kept him for half a season, then sold him to Trabzonspor for 10 million euros.
The deal includes a further two million euros in add-ons, almost doubling Benfica’s outlay within six months. Estrela retained 10% of the profit on Benfica’s sale.
