Marc Cucurella has signed his contract extension at Chelsea with the agreement completed between both parties according to Fabrizio Romano.

Cucurella arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2022 from Brighton in a deal worth £63m, but really struggled in his first season at the club.

The Spaniard was booed at times by Chelsea supporters, and almost joined Manchester United on loan in the 2023 summer window.

However, Cucurella has been able to turn his fortunes around at Chelsea, and has not only established himself as a fan favourite, but he’s also one of the most important players in the team.

Cucurella was arguably the best left back in the league last season, and it could also be argued he’s one of the best in Europe currently.

There were reports Chelsea were planning to offer Cucurella a new deal as a reward for his fine form, and Romano has now provided an update.

He took to X.com and said:

“EXCL: Chelsea have now completed the agreement with Marc Cucurella over new deal.

“Seen as key player on the pitch, leader off the pitch and really important for present/future.

“New contract is signed and sealed for Cucurella at #CFC.”

There were rumours of Saudi side Al-Nassr having interest, but Cucurella is set to stay at Stamford Bridge for the foreseeable future.

Jorrel Hato to provide competition

One glaring gap in the squad last season was an alternative to the Spain international at left back, but Chelsea have addressed the situation this summer.

The Blues signed teenager Jorrel Hato from Ajax, and the 19-year-old will provide much needed cover and competition for the former Brighton man.

Hato impressed with his performances against both Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan, and it looks like he will make an important contribution throughout the season.
