Celtic have agreed to sign Danish international striker Kasper Hogh from Bodo/Glimt in a club record £11 million plus deal, much to the delight of the supporters. The player will be having his medical today ahead of an unveiling tomorrow at Celtic Park.
Celtic Shorts been calling for Celtic to make a move for the Danish striker for months and credit where it is due, Celtic delivered on that yesterday, with the news breaking shortly after Daizen Maeda’s transfer to Ipswich Town was confirmed.
Kasper Hogh will join a forward line boosted by recent signing Camilo Duran, meaning £16 million has been invested in our attacking area, although we have lost the talented Daizen Maeda who signed for Ipswich in a £10 million deal, having previously lost Kyogo to Rennes 18 previously for the same sum as Daizen’s sale brought in.
The upside is that we have brought aboard two quality strikers, and more importantly both of whom are proven at the highest level in the Champions League.
Camilo Duran sprang to prominence in last year’s Champions League group stages, scoring five goals for Azerbaijan side Qarabag, with his strikes arriving against Newcastle United, Ajax, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Benfica, impressing with his overall game, and not just his goalscoring ability. His pressing game is almost as good as Daizen’s so that is going to be a huge attribute especially in European football.

Kasper Hogh had already proven his credentials on the European stage, scoring seven goals as Bodo/Glimt reached the semi-finals of the Europa league in the 2024/25 campaign.
Then our new Great Dane proved his credentials in European football’s premier competition, the Champions League last year when he notched goals against the likes of Inter Milan, Manchester City, and Atletico Madrid.
Overall the two men have scored a combined 34 goals, and registering 21 assists last campaign. Impressive stats that will add to our rather weak and depleted forward line.
Watching Duran over pre-season, he looks like a player who as already mentioned is similar in many ways to Daizen Maeda. He likes to press the opposition defence, but also displays a striker’s instinct when the ball is played into the box, as he proved yet again against AC Milan in yesterday’s warm-up clash at Celtic Park, which finished in a 2-2 draw.
Both players can complement each other, and I’d assume that Duran will occupy the Daizen Maeda role on the left side of the attack, whilst Hogh will fill the centre forward position. Martin O’Neill confirmed after the match that he sees no reason why both can’t play together so it’s not a case of Celtic signing two No.9s and rotating minutes between the pair.

To get two quality players, both of whom are still to hit their prime for that sort of money is a sensational bit of business from Celtic who are at long last starting to get their act together in the transfer market. That is all the Celtic support has ever asked then to do.
Now don’t stop here, get the midfielder, goalkeeper and left-back signings that have been worked on over the line this week and give Martin O’Neill the best chance possible of delivering a successful season domestically while making an impact in the Champions League after getting through the play-off round which will probably be as tough as it always seems to be.

Two lethal goalscorers though could very well make all the difference and it looks like we’ll have them both at the manager’s disposal.
