Wolves’ relegation to the Championship has been confirmed, offering at least one consolation for the away faithful. According to ExpressAndStar.com, next season could be among the most travel-friendly in recent memory.
With a strong Midlands contingent expected, several fixtures should require little more than a quick drive.
West Bromwich Albion top the list. The Hawthorns is barely seven miles from Molineux and, providing the Baggies avoid relegation to League One, it would be the first league meeting in front of supporters since 2012.
Birmingham City is next. St Andrew’s sits around 12 miles away, so a sizeable away following is expected to make the short hop down the A41.
Stoke City is a little further but still comfortable. The bet365 Stadium is roughly 45 miles north via the M6, a ground where Wolves fans hold fond memories.
Derby County and newly promoted Lincoln City round out the five shortest trips. Pride Park is about 50 miles from Wolverhampton, while Lincoln is approximately 80 miles and a straightforward run.
If Nottingham Forest also drop, that would add another relatively short journey east. For supporters, more local derbies, reduced costs and packed away ends would be a welcome boost after seasons of lengthy Premier League travel.
