Simon Jordan has made a surprise admission regarding Sheffield Wednesday's ownership
Simon Jordan has revealed that he headed up a consortium that was interested in buying Sheffield Wednesday.
The Owls have been up for sale since former owner Dejphon Chansiri placed them into administration in late October, after he was unable to satisfy a £1m HMRC bill.
Although Wednesday were hit with an automatic 12-point deduction as a result of this, which all but confirms their relegation to League One, as many as 80 parties showed a keen interest in taking over at Hillsborough.
Included within this list were the likes of US billionaire John McEvoy and Sheffield-born insurance tycoon Ryan Howsam, both rumoured to be among the other interested parties.
News recently broke that Mike Ashley had a £20m bid to become the next Owls’ owner rejected, with three other offers of £30m immediately bettering it.
Whilst all the parties that have shown an interest in taking over Wednesday still aren’t fully known, Jordan has revealed that he was part of one consortium.

With a deadline of December 5 set as to when a new owner could potentially be announced, there is still plenty of time for any one of the remaining parties to swoop in and secure the Steel City side.
It has been reported that a number of US consortiums hold a serious desire to become the Owls’ next owners, but their identities remain anonymous.
One party that hasn't remained anonymous however is Jordan, who recently admitted on talkSPORT that he fronted a consortium that was interested in taking over Sheffield Wednesday.
“ I put together a consortium of people, very well-heeled people, proved up £50 million to have a look at Sheffield Wednesday,” revealed Jordan.
“It's a club that I've always advocated for because I think it's a big club waiting to happen again if it had proper management, proper ownership, proper direction and proper disciplines around building it back as a football club.
“But it is massively challenged. The reasons why I've decided not to go forward with it is because I don't like the idea of rewarding Chasiri by having to pay huge money to avoid the Football League regulations of being sanctioned again.
“I would be quite happy to have the ownership of Sheffield Wednesday and have a 15-point penalty in this season because it doesn't make any difference. You're going to get relegated and not have it next year.”

By Jordan’s own admission, he has now removed himself from the process of becoming Wednesday’s next owner due to concerns about getting Chansiri out of financial trouble.
However, in the scenario where he had continued into the final stages of the process and won out, it could’ve been extremely polarising for the Hillsborough faithful.
On the one hand, Jordan has lots of experience within the game, having previously owned Crystal Palace, which means that he would be well-placed to help navigate Wednesday through this tricky period.
That said, he made a number of questionable strategic decisions in charge of the Eagles and ultimately had to place them into administration, which means that some sections of the Owls’ fanbase would be rather wary about the possibility of him taking over.
Although the possibility of it happening has been ruled out, it would’ve been extremely intriguing to see what Jordan would’ve done differently as Sheffield Wednesday owner.
