Former Inter Milan head coach Simone Inzaghi is pushing for a reunion with Francesco Acerbi, with Al-Hilal closely monitoring the veteran defender’s situation as Inter plan their next defensive moves.

According to Pasquale Guarro on calciomercato.com, Acerbi has emerged as more than a passing idea for the Saudi club.

Indeed, where Simone Inzaghi would welcome a familiar and trusted figure into his back line.

The two enjoyed a strong working relationship during their time together in Italy.

The possibility of the duo linking up again has gained traction in recent days.

Guarro explains that Inter are already preparing for different scenarios.

“Something needs fixing in defence, especially if Acerbi decides to join Simone Inzaghi,” he writes, pointing to internal planning underway at the club.

Should the Italian centre-back depart, Cristian Chivu has made his priorities clear.

“Chivu is asking for a left-footed defender,” Guarro notes, “someone quick, who can play both as a central defender and as a wide centre-back.” That profile would allow Inter to maintain tactical balance within their defensive structure.

Among the names considered, Mario Gila is described as the preferred option. However, Guarro underlines that a January move appears unrealistic, given Claudio Lotito’s reluctance to weaken his squad mid-season.

Another candidate is Tarik Muharemovic, who remains on Inter’s shortlist. His situation is complicated by Juventus retaining 50 per cent of any future resale, but interest remains strong.

For now, much depends on Acerbi’s decision. If the veteran chooses to follow Inzaghi to Al-Hilal, Inter are ready to move swiftly to reshape their defence.
