Chelsea had a golden period under Roman Abramovich in which they won everything, and employed the best managers and signed the best players.
However, following the takeover by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital in 2022 things have been very different to what fans are used to.
Chelsea have invested heavily in the playing squad, spending well over £1bn, but still don’t have a squad capable of competing simultaneously in the Premier League and Champions League.
After four years the Blues aren’t any closer to competing for the league title, and they aren’t on the same level as Europe’s top teams.
Joe Cole has questioned the way the club is run, with Chelsea seemingly more interested in running a player trading model than having sustained on pitch success.
The ownership always talk about the long term, but there appears to be no plans for success in the short and medium term, and Mikel has questioned what their objectives actually are.
“The culture, the DNA of the club which Roman Abramovich instilled in every single person associated with Chelsea was winning; winning trophies, being successful,” he told The Obi One Podcast.
“What is the objective of these new owners? We want to win titles.
“That’s all we know, being successful. Winning games, competing to win the Premier League, to win the Champions League.
“That’s who we are, that’s our DNA. Since these owners came on board, I don’t know what the objective is.”

Mikel criticised the ownership for Enzo Maresca’s mid-season departure and labelled it a big mistake, with Marc Cucurella and Enzo Fernandez also speaking out against the decision.

Cucurella also questioned the club’s project and it’ll be interesting what Liam Rosenior says when he’s inevitably asked ahead of Saturday’s game against Port Vale.
