Celtic FC Women climbed to second in the table, level on points with Glasgow City on Wednesday evening, running ouy 6-0 winners against Queen’s Park.
With three goals in either half, it was a strong away performance from the Hoops, with five different scorers getting their name on the scoresheet.
Rounding off what has been another busy month, the Hoops travelled to Stenhousemuir to face Queen’s Park at Ochilview.
With a chance to go level on points with top spot, Elena Sadiku’s side played out their second of two rescheduled fixtures, following their involvement in the UEFA Women’s Champions League earlier in the season.
From the early stages of the game, the Celts’ dominance was clear, and they were pushing right from the off, enjoying the lion share of possession.
Despite that dominance, they were made to wait a little for the opener, which came on 14 minutes through Saoirse Noonan.
Continuing her strong start to 2025, the Irish forward got her first of two on the night, smashing the ball home from close range after it fell to her inside the area.
The Hoops’ first half dominance continued with Noonan coming close on several occasions, alongside Morgan Cross hitting the post.
The Irish striker did grab her and Celtic’s second as the half time whistle approached, with another clinical finish.
Making the run across the front post, Noonan was on hand to head the ball home and double the advantage.
The Ghirls didn’t have to wait as long for their third of the match as Colette Cavanagh scored just before the break, heading home from a corner with two minutes of the half left to play.
Heading into the second half, Celtic continued that goal scoring momentum as Shannon McGregor made it four inside ten minutes.
Striking the ball home with an impressive left foot finish off the inside of the post, the Hoops were in no mood for slowing down in front of goal.
And the fifth game just beyond the hour mark as Mathilde Carstens got in on the act with a smart left footed finish.
The Celts maintained their pressure throughout the half with Kit Loferski and Abi Harrison being introduced and coming close on a few occasions.
There was time for one more just before the full time whistle, with substitute Maria McAneny rounding off the scoring, with a superb finish on her right foot.
Having went level with Glasgow City in the SWPL on Wednesday evening, the Ghirls now face a short break from league duty.
And they will meet their league and city rivals as Sadiku’s side take on Glasgow City this Sunday in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup at Petershill Park (1pm KO)
