Sky journo: It ‘can’t be ruled out’ that £37m Man United star joins Euro giants this month

Although they’re currently waiting on the impending arrival of forward Donyell Malen, AS Roma remain interested in signing Joshua Zirkzee this month.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that the Serie A outfit had finalised a deal with Aston Villa to add Malen to their ranks on loan until the end of the season, when Roma will then have to shell out his obligation fee.

They’re still not satisfied, though, as Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims ‘it cannot be ruled out’ that Roma try to also facilitate a move for Manchester United’s No.11.

Di Marzio adds that Roma are in ongoing talks with United to gauge the feasibility of Zirkzee making the move.

Originally, the club had made it clear that he would be going nowhere mid-season, but the managerial switch-up has perhaps opened the door for leeway, as it now depends on whether Michael Carrick wants the Dutchman in his ranks for the second half of the campaign.

Zirkzee will also need to meet with Carrick to decipher what kind of role he’s set to play in the coming months – especially with Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo now back from the African Cup of Nations and United being out of both cup competitions.

After being granted a run of three successive starts in late November, the 24-year-old is now back to playing a reduced role off the bench.

His last start came in the clash at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on December 30, during which he scored United’s only goal of the game before being controversially hooked at half-time.

He then played for 27 minutes against Leeds United and for only 16 minutes against Burnley.
