Liverpool Transfer News: Alisson Expected to Stay as Defensive Questions Grow

Sky Sports’ latest update on Liverpool’s summer planning offers reassurance in one key area, with Alisson Becker expected to remain at Anfield despite interest from Juventus.

Sky Sports News’ Vinny O’Connor reported: “Goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who is subject of interest from Juventus, is expected to remain a Liverpool player next season.”

That is significant. Alisson remains one of Liverpool’s most reliable performers, a goalkeeper whose authority, decision making and penalty box control still shape the team’s defensive confidence. Juventus’ interest is no surprise, particularly given the Brazilian’s pedigree, but Liverpool appear set to keep hold of a player who remains central to Arne Slot’s plans.

Sky Sports also noted: “Sky Sports News revealed earlier this month that Juventus are looking to make the Brazil international their top summer transfer target.”

From Liverpool’s perspective, retaining Alisson would remove one major summer headache. With change expected elsewhere in the squad, stability in goal matters.

Konate Contract Situation Remains Unresolved

The more uncertain issue surrounds Ibrahima Konate. According to Sky Sports: “Ibrahima Konate’s future is still to be sorted out. He is yet to sign a new contract. An extension was said to be close a few weeks ago but nothing has emerged since then.”

That wording will concern Liverpool supporters. Konate has the physical tools to be an elite centre back, yet the longer a contract remains unsigned, the more speculation tends to grow. Liverpool have been proactive in recent windows when planning defensive succession, but Konate’s situation requires clarity.

Virgil van Dijk remains at the club, while Joe Gomez is also still present, although Sky Sports highlighted that Gomez has “just a year left on his contract.” That creates a wider defensive picture that feels fluid rather than settled.

Jeremy Jacquet Adds Intrigue to Defensive Rebuild

One of the most eye catching details in the report is the arrival of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes. Sky Sports stated: “Remember that Jeremy Jacquet will become a Liverpool player this summer from Rennes – just before he turns 21 – in a £60m deal. He is the second-most expensive defender to join Liverpool.”

That would represent a major investment in youth, athleticism and long term potential. Yet there is also a note of caution, with Jacquet having “missed the back end of the season with a shoulder injury.”

Liverpool also have Geovanni Leoni returning from an ACL injury, meaning the defensive depth chart contains talent, but also risk. Injuries, adaptation and contract uncertainty are all part of the equation.

Left Back Cover Could Become Priority

The left back situation may also need attention. Sky Sports reported that “cover at left back may be needed with Andy Robertson saying his goodbyes,” while Kostas Tsimikas is set to return from his loan spell.

That area could become one of the more important parts of Liverpool’s summer. Robertson’s departure would mark the end of a hugely successful chapter, and replacing his intensity, leadership and delivery will not be straightforward.

For now, the message is mixed. Alisson staying would be a major boost. Yet Konate’s contract, Gomez’s future, Jacquet’s fitness, Leoni’s recovery and the left back picture all suggest Liverpool’s defensive planning is far from complete.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

From a Liverpool perspective, this report is reassuring in one place and deeply unsettling everywhere else.

Alisson staying is massive. There are very few goalkeepers in world football who can give a defence that level of belief. When Liverpool look open, stretched or unsure, Alisson is often the difference between control and chaos. Losing him to Juventus would have felt like the start of a much bigger problem.

Yet the Konate update is worrying. If an extension was close weeks ago and nothing has emerged, supporters are right to wonder what has changed. Liverpool cannot afford another major contract situation drifting into uncertainty, especially in such a vital position.

The Jeremy Jacquet deal sounds ambitious, and £60m for a defender just before he turns 21 tells you Liverpool see something special. But fans will naturally ask whether a young centre back arriving after a shoulder injury can immediately carry Premier League responsibility.

Then there is left back. Andy Robertson saying his goodbyes would be emotionally huge and tactically significant. Tsimikas returning helps, but does it solve the issue? Probably not by itself.

Liverpool look like a club trying to refresh the back line while still carrying too many unanswered questions. Alisson staying calms the nerves, but it does not remove them.
