Sky Sports have followed up on the news that Newcastle United are once again trying to buy Anthony Elanga.
On Tuesday, we brought you details of a David Ornstein exclusive on the attempted signing.
The man from The Athletic giving details of the two bids Newcastle United have now made to sign Anthony Elanga.
Ornstein saying that an offer of £45m was made on Tuesday (24 June 2024) and turned down by Nottingham Forest.
The journalist also revealing for the first time exactly what was offered ten months earlier. David Ornstein stating that at the end of August 2024 on transfer deadline day, an offer was made by Newcastle United to Forest for Anthony Elanga of £30m guaranteed, potential add-ons of £10m in two separate possible triggered payments of £5m each, then the other £5m covered by Miguel Almiron heading in the other direction.
Sky Sports have then followed up this David Ornstein exclusive on Tuesday, stating that Newcastle United have not given up on Anthony Elanga and are now considering whether to make a third improved bid to try and sign the Sweden international.
Sky Sports report that Newcastle United also have back up options they are interested in, if an Anthony Elanga deal proves too difficult/expensive to do, with those alternative options believed to include Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi, Mohammed Kudus of West Ham and Johan Bakayoko of PSV.
Sky Sports also state that their information from the Nottingham Forest side of things is that the club value Anthony Elanga at £60m and don’t want to sell him.
As with all potential transfers where clearly there is interest in a club signing the player, is it a case of Forest really really determined to keep Anthony Elanga, or is there a price they will deal at? Then of course, whether Newcastle United will match that selling price if indeed there is one, whether it is £60m or whatever.
The Mag report – 25 June 2025:
‘David Ornstein has revealed that Newcastle United made an offer of around £45m for Anthony Elanga on Tuesday.
However, the very reliable journalist from The Athletic says that Nottingham Forest have rejected that bid.
An international teammate of Alexander Isak, the 23 year old played in all 38 of Nottingham Forest’s Premier League games last season, scoring six goals and providing 11 assists.
Anthony Elanga and Forest finished a point and two places behind Champions League qualifying Newcastle United, having to settle for seventh and qualification for the Conference League.
Interestingly, David Ornstein has also filled in the details of another bid made by Newcastle United for Anthony Elanga, that previous bid on deadline day at the end of August 2024.
The man from The Athletic says that was also a ‘£45m’ deal BUT instead of a guaranteed £45m, it was £30m guaranteed, potential add-ons of £10m in two separate possible triggered payments of £5m each, then the other £5m covered by Miguel Almiron heading in the other direction.
Nottingham Forest of course also turned down that offer for Anthony Elanga 10 months ago, with since then Miguel Almiron having headed back to his old club Atlanta United in a deal that will eventually net Newcastle United a reported £11m.
