Michael Carrick is still ‘not the favourite’ to take charge of Manchester United permanently, despite his unbeaten run since taking the reins on an interim basis.
Sky Sports’ Rob Dorsett confirmed this afternoon that Red Devils chiefs have no intention of ‘accelerating their plans’ in their managerial search, and are determined to do their due diligence by taking the time necessary to find the right man.
As things stand, it’s unlikely that it’ll be Carrick, which may come as a surprise to the Old Trafford faithful.

The former midfielder has yet to taste defeat across either of his spells as United boss, initially overseeing a three-game unbeaten run when he succeeded Ole Gunnar Solskjaer temporarily in November 2021.
This time around, he has beaten the top two in the division in the form of Arsenal and Manchester City, with the former being unbeaten at home until they fell to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Carrick’s revitalised Reds.
He followed up such emphatic results with wins over Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur – securing a first triumph against the North London outfit since October 2022.
Last night was the first time United have been unable to claim maximum points with Carrick in the dugout, having drawn 1-1 with West Ham away from home.

Given the side had already been knocked out of both cup competitions by the time he was appointed, his sole goal from now until May is finishing in the Champions League places.
The current English sides performing well in Europe are set to boost United’s chances of doing so, too, as the Premier League is the favourite to receive an extra UCL place.
Overnight, there were developments in France that saw Roberto De Zerbi abruptly cut short his tenure with Olympique Marseille.
The former Brighton and Hove Albion coach has been linked with United ever since he began exceeding expectations in England, although his spell in France has left much to be desired; Marseille failed to progress from the first phase of the UCL this term and currently sit fourth-placed in Ligue 1.
