Virgil van Dijk says Liverpool were “far too rushed” in their defeat to Manchester United at Anfield.

Liverpool were beaten 2-1 by their fierce rivals after Harry Maguire headed in a late winner.

Cody Gakpo had equalised following Bryan Mbeumo’s early opener and the home side also missed several big chances to take the lead.

But van Dijk says he was not happy with his team’s performance, with their latest defeat being the fourth in a row in all competitions for the reigning Premier League champions.

“We obviously conceded a very sloppy second goal,” the Dutchman told Sky Sports after the game.

“We worked so hard to get back into the game. We created opportunities to score the winner but if you concede a second goal like that, obviously that’s the disappointing part.

“I think overall if you look at the game, we were far too rushed. I think we made wrong decisions at times and those were also the moments where we were open when we lost the ball.

“A disappointing day.”

The 34-year-old also urged his side to stick together during this difficult run.

“We have to stick together,” he said. “Not only us as players, but together with our fans.”
