Liverpool claimed a 5-2 win over West Ham United at Anfield to move into fifth place on the Premier League table.
An own goal plus goals from Hugo Ekitike, Virgil Van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister, and Cody Gakpo helped Liverpool move closer to the top four.
Unfortunately, Liverpool playmaker Florian Wirtz was unavailable to strut his stuff. The German international (37 caps) missed the game last weekend and is still sidelined.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot was asked whether Wirtz would be ready for their midweek clash. It appears he is still nursing his injury.
Slot said (via Liverpoolfc.com), “I think that will be too early, but I said last week I didn’t expect him not to be available for today, so sometimes with an injury things can develop in a positive way or in a negative way.
“Now we are thinking it doesn’t have to take too long, but Tuesday will probably be too early.
“The week after will be tight as things stand now, but as I said, I thought that he would be available for today as well, which didn’t happen, unfortunately.”
This injury is unfortunate for Wirtz as he was beginning to find his feet in Merseyside, recording six goal contributions in nine games before the setback.
The Reds need all hands on deck as they prepare for the run-in, and they will be sweating on the fitness of the 22-year-old.
Wirtz will likely miss the Premier League and FA Cup match-ups with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Slot will hope to have him back for the UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash with Galatasaray.
After a turbulent start to the season, the reigning Premier League champions have finally found some stability.
The Reds have put together a run of six wins in seven matches. They refuse to leave the season empty-handed.
