Slot talks Chiesa injury, Jota knock, Anfield atmosphere ahead of Bologna | OneFootball

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has discussed an injury problem for Federico Chiesa ahead of their Champions League game with Bologna on Wednesday.

“Federico trained with us yesterday. Came today with some problems so not expecting him to be with us. It’s a shame for him. Not expecting him to be out for very long.”

The boss also revealed some better news after concerns over Diogo Jota.

“Diogo missed two sessions after the game against Wolves. He took a knock. I am expecting him to be with us tomorrow.”

Slot then went on to talk about the atmosphere at Anfield during Champions League nights.

“People tell me it is more special here. I want to see this, I want to feel this. That the players missed this for a season.

“I am hoping it’s the same from the fans. This desire to show Europe that they missed us. That combination should lead to a special night for everyone.”

Questioned about losing his temper, Slot revealed his laid-back approach, and talked about his system of play.

“I don’t lose my temper that much,” he confessed. “I don’t think it’s a good idea to lose your temper every day.

“It’s better to show them the actual things they do. The players were frustrated after Wolves as well.

“These were no the standards I expect from a Liverpool team. They do not accept these moments as well. That is also normal.

“When we don’t have the ball, there is no room for freedom. But when we have the ball, especially in the final third, we rely on individual quality.

“They should feel freedom even if they don’t have it as much as they think they have!”

The Dutchman went on to talk about Liverpool’s rotation system and keeping players happy over playing time.

“We have a lot of quality and we have a lot of players who can help us.

“Really pleased to see that every time we need a player, they show up. But even tougher fixtures coming up.

“It’s not hard because they [all] have quality. If they didn’t have quality, they wouldn’t be here.

“It’s hard to tell them they don’t play. But it’s part of my job and part of their lives as well. It is what they are all used to. They are handling the situation really well. There is a good energy in the group.”

Wednesday’s opponents are new to the Champions League, but Slot urged for caution in mistaking inexperience for lack of ability.

“Bologna showed they are a really difficult team to beat.

“We know how difficult it can be against a team that man-marks all over the pitch. To face an Italian team at Champions League level, we don’t under estimate them at all.”

Last time out, Liverpool beat Milan 3-1 at San Siro, and will next face an away trip to RB Leipzig.
