Liverpool’s trip to Brighton ended in frustration, with a 2-1 defeat highlighting missed chances and a lack of sharpness at key moments. Milos Kerkez, who found the net on the south coast, did not shy away from the reality of the performance, offering an honest assessment after the final whistle.
Arne Slot’s side arrived on the back of a strong European result, yet could not translate that momentum into another positive outcome. Brighton, organised and energetic, made life difficult throughout and ultimately deserved their edge in front of goal.
Danny Welbeck’s double proved decisive, with Brighton capitalising on Liverpool’s inability to control key phases of the match. Kerkez acknowledged the hosts’ quality and admitted the Reds fell short of their own standards when speaking to liverpoolfc.com.
“I think they definitely played good, had more chances,” the left back said. “I think we didn’t create as much as we wanted and it was a tough day, definitely.”
Fatigue may have played a part following a busy schedule, but Kerkez refused to lean on that as justification.
“You could see some of us were a bit tired also. They did good, so credit to them.”

Liverpool remain in a strong position in the Premier League standings, but matches like this underline the fine margins that define a title defence.
Kerkez’s equaliser offered a glimpse of his attacking instincts. Reading the situation quickly, he capitalised on a defensive lapse to bring Liverpool level.
“The ball went back to Giorgi and I made a deep run. I know he likes to give the balls to the goalkeeper with his chest and to head it back, so I just thought I’d continue the run,” he explained.
“He sent it back and it was not a bad finish. But when you don’t go out with three points, it doesn’t really matter.”
It was a moment that reflected both intelligence and execution, yet it ultimately counted for little in the context of the result.
Despite the disappointment, attention quickly turns to what lies ahead. Liverpool face a crucial run of fixtures across domestic and European competitions, starting with an FA Cup quarter final against Manchester City.
Kerkez made it clear that focus must shift immediately.
“Straight away in the FA Cup we have City and then big games with PSG, really important for us, and Fulham in between.”
“So, all of these games are going to be massively important and we have to come back fit and ready.”
For Liverpool, the defeat at Brighton serves as a reminder that consistency remains essential. The response in the coming weeks will shape how successful this campaign becomes.
