Mohamed Salah’s (33) situation at Liverpool is uncertain. His explosive mixed zone interview last weekend, during which he revealed that his relationship with manager Arne Slot had broken down, called his future at Anfield into question.
Claiming to have been “thrown under the bus”, he openly admitted that the game against Brighton and Hove Albion could be his last. The Egyptian was not included in the matchday squad to face Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, but following talks with Slot, he was involved in the 2-0 win over Brighton on Saturday. The forward came off the bench in the first half in what was his last match with Liverpool before heading for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
And his last in a Liverpool shirt. “I hope it won’t be his last match,” his teammate, Ibrahima Konaté (26) told Canal Plus post-match.
The Frenchman went on to evoke the Salah situation with the broadcaster. “I honestly don’t know if it is his last match. But honestly, personally, I don’t think so. Everyone saw how much Salah loves the club, how much the club loves him. Now, what has happened… sometimes you have to understand the player’s frustration, a player who has had such a career, has done so much,” said Konaté.
He continued, “Now, we won’t go into details about what was said internally. It has been sorted, given that he was included in the squad. He is a player that everyone loves, the manager loves, he loves the coach, too; everyone loves each other at this club. It is impressive.”
