Notably, the winter transfer market was open and Southampton knew that they needed signings, actually a lot of them. While there were a handful of incomings, the conclusion of the window still left a bad taste among the club's supporters.

Primary targets preferring other clubs, deals getting cancelled and even messy exits - the Saints endured all of these miseries during the past month. Generally, the director should be questioned after this level of mismanagement but that can't be done at Southampton.

Recently, Southampton's appeal has been approved to recruit Spors in the technical director's role. The Saints confirmed this decision on their official website where Spors appeared glad to eventually be a part of the management team.

Sharing his euphoria, Spors said: "I'm excited to finally start work at Southampton. Saints are a club with a great history and commitment to developing players, not only in the Academy, but also at First Team level."

Spors' words echoes what every Southampton fan wanted in this situation. A detailed focus on the senior team while effectively managing the youth teams and promising players.
