Will Still was sacked by Southampton earlier this month, but he could be set for a quick reunion with the Saints if he takes over at Norwich City.

Southampton are currently searching for a new boss following the sacking of Will Still, but they may also be keeping a close eye on their former manager's potential next move.

Still only took over at Southampton in the summer following their relegation from the Premier League, and he arrived with a strong reputation after his impressive spells in France with Reims and Lens, with the latter finishing eighth in Ligue 1 under his guidance last season.

Despite being backed heavily in the summer transfer window with some big-money signings, including the likes of Caspar Jander, Finn Azaz, Tom Fellows, Leo Scienza and Damion Downs, it never really got going for Still at St Mary's, and he was dismissed by the Saints earlier this month.

Still won only four of his 16 games in charge of Southampton, drawing six and losing six, and he departed with the club sitting just one place above the relegation zone, but while he struggled to make an impact on the South Coast, he could be set to be handed a surprise Championship lifeline.

As the managerial merry-go-round swings into action, the Saints are far from the only second tier club to have made a change in the dugout in recent weeks, and Norwich City are another club currently on the hunt for a new boss, with Still reportedly one of the names on their radar.

After being widely tipped to win promotion, Southampton have failed to live up to expectations this season, but the title of biggest underachievers in the Championship almost certainly belongs to Norwich.

The Canaries looked to have pulled off a big coup when they poached Liam Manning from Bristol City in the summer, just weeks after he guided the Robins to a play-off finish, but his time at Carrow Road was a disaster, with the 40-year-old winning just three of his 17 games in charge, drawing three and losing 11.

Manning lost all of his eight home games at the helm of Norwich, and after his side's winless run was extended to 11 league games following a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on Saturday, he was relieved of his duties amid increasing supporter protests.

A host of names have been linked with the Canaries since Manning's exit, including three of the club's former players in Gary O'Neil, Russell Martin and Mark Fotheringham, while former Blackburn Rovers and Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson has reportedly been interviewed, and Still is thought to be another contender for the vacancy.

Of course, with a managerial vacancy of their own to fill, the Southampton board have plenty of big decisions of their own to make over the international break, and perhaps their biggest call is whether to give caretaker Tonda Eckert an extended run in the role after he oversaw back-to-back victories over Queens Park Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday.

However, the Saints would surely not have expected Still to be under consideration for another Championship job quite so soon after his St Mary's exit, and their eyes will be drawn to a possible reunion with their former manager should he land the Norwich post.

The Canaries welcome Southampton to Carrow Road on Saturday 13th December, with the lunchtime kick-off taking place in front of the Sky Sports cameras, and what already promises to be an intriguing game would certainly take on extra significance if Still was in the home dugout.

While Still struggled to connect with Saints supporters during his brief spell at the club, there was not too much animosity towards him from the stands, other than a few chants calling for his sacking in his final games, and his lack of bitterness at his sacking and recent candid admission that he "didn’t do well enough" will have earned him plenty of respect from all those connected to his former employers.

In the same interview, Still insisted that he wanted to "take the time to do things right for the next step", rather than rushing into a new challenge, but the fact he has held discussions with Norwich suggests he would be open to making a quick return to management if he was to receive an attractive offer.

Given that the Canaries currently sit second bottom of the table and are four points from safety, they would be taking a huge gamble if they were to appoint Still, but he would arrive with a point to prove after his disappointing Southampton stint, and he would have no better opportunity to get one over on the Saints than when the two clubs meet next month.
