That is according to Bayern insider, Christian Falk, with the Israeli international shot-stopper previously linked with a potential switch to St Mary's after the Saints were relegated from the Premier League back into the Championship for the second time in three seasons.

The South Coast club are currently in a strong position to mount a sustained bid for the play-off places during the second half of the campaign, as Tonda Eckert continues to oversee a drastic short-term transformation in terms of performance levels and results, which began through a 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers on November 4th after the former Barnsley and Genoa assistant coach was promoted to the position of Saints' interim boss following the dismissal of Will Still two days previous after a run of one win in 12 games.

The German has since enjoyed a run of six wins out of a possible seven, celebrating his instalment as permanent head coach until the summer of 2027 with successive home victories over Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion.

As such, the Saints are now positioned just one point outside the top six with 26 games remaining, and attention is now starting to turn towards potential movement at the turn of the year, when the transfer window reopens for business until the deadline of 11PM on Monday, February 3rd.

Plenty of change occurred in the summer at St Mary's, with plenty of high-profile names departing the club after relegation, whilst a total of 10 incomings were made, including the recent short-term deal which saw Oriol Romeu return to Hampshire after being a free agent.

Sporting director, Johannes Spors, has recently outlined the club's transfer plans in the short-term, with supporters offering mixed reviews to such comments. However, they appear to be in the market for a new goalkeeper, according to the aforementioned report.

Indeed, Peretz is a name who will be somewhat familiar to Southampton supporters, who saw their club linked with a potential swoop for the 25-year-old after their relegation was finally confirmed in April, as they accumulated a measly 12 points in the Premier League.

The 10-time senior Israel international was viewed as a potential replacement for Aaron Ramsdale, who was heavily linked with a departure at the time, before eventually moving to UEFA Champions League outfit, Newcastle United in August after an initial loan agreement with an option-to-buy was struck between the two clubs.

Sky Deutschland initially broke Southampton's interest in the Bayern goalkeeper on April 28th as they faced competition from Eintracht Frankfurt, whilst it was expected that Peretz would depart the Allianz Arena either on loan or a permanent deal which included a buy-back clause, although the individual was said to be hoping for a loan switch and to remain in the Bundesliga.

It was then claimed that Burnley were interested in striking a deal with their former boss, Vincent Kompany, for Peretz's signature amid strong interest in James Trafford, who has since returned to Manchester City, before reports in September claimed that both Southampton and Leicester City were plotting a potential loan swoop for the man who enjoyed a record-breaking promotion campaign at Turf Moor last term.

Such developments occurred before Peretz made a loan switch to newly-promoted Hamburger SV on July 21st in a deal until the end of the season. But, he is yet to feature for Merzin Polzin's side, leading to question marks over his short-term future.

Yet, despite a change in the dugout as Eckert now looks to plan ahead for his maiden transfer window as Saints boss, Falk now claims that the man who signed for Bayern for €5m from Maccabi Tel Aviv in the summer of 2023 is of interest to the Championship club once more.

Although specific details have not been disclosed, the journalist claims a move to St Mary's "would be a very good experience for him, potentially in the Premier League if Southampton get promoted this season."

Southampton FC have been linked with other goalkeeper targets in recent weeks

As previously mentioned, Peretz is not the only goalkeeper who has been linked with a switch to St Mary's, with both Still and Eckert rotating between Gavin Bazunu and Alex McCarthy in the first four months of the campaign, during which Saints have conceded 28 times thus far.

Trafford, of course, was the subject of reported loan interest in September, whilst Sunderland goalkeeper, Anthony Patterson, who was also of previous interest to the newly-relegated club, also re-emerged as a potential target for the Solent side alongside Leicester.
