The Saints have ushered in yet another new era by bringing in the highly-rated Will Still as their new head coach after a stint with RC Lens in France, and they will find out next week who they are set to open their campaign against in August when the fixtures are released.

There's been little in the way of transfer activity so far at the club, with Hoffenheim centre-back Joshua Quarshie arriving and the likes of Samuel Amo-Ameyaw, Kyle Walker-Peters and Adam Lallana exiting, but no senior players have been cashed in on yet this summer - that could be about to change though.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana could be on the way out of Southampton following their relegation.

He reports that contact has been made between the two clubs to try and bring the 23-year-old to Bergamo, although he still does have two years remaining on his contract with the south coast outfit.

Sulemana played regularly under Ivan Juric last season, first appearing off the bench under the Croat on Boxing Day against West Ham, but he did start nine times in the Premier League for him before he exited the club as manager in early April.

A scorer of just one goal in 26 top flight appearances last season, Sulemana hasn't made a great impact since his 2023 transfer from Stade Rennais for a fee of £22 million, scoring just three times in league action, with none of those coming the last time the Saints were in the Championship in 2023-24.

Kamaldeen Sulemana may not fit into Will Still's preferred system at Southampton

After being on the fringes for much of his recent time with Southampton, Sulemana being re-introduced by Juric would've certainly gave the winger a bit more confidence, and the fact he's targeting him again for Atalanta suggests the Croatian coach was a big fan.

And a move may be best for all parties, if it's to be presumed that Will Still will bring the same tactics and systems in from his time at Lens.

Last season, Still opted not to deploy wingers for the most part, with a 5-2-2-1 or a 3-4-1-2 formation preferred, although there were times when he did move to a back four and play a 4-2-3-1 too.
