Southampton under-21s’ Premier League International Cup meeting with RB Leipzig was postponed this evening because of poor conditions.

The scheduled seven pm kick-off at Eastleigh’s Silverlake Stadium was called off after a pitch inspection, the surface having been deemed unplayable following heavy rainfall in the area. The club said in a statement, "Details for the rescheduled fixture in 2026 will be confirmed in due course."

The postponement followed flood alerts issued across the county as the downpour caused river levels to rise.

The tie had been set to be Southampton’s final under-21s game of the year. Adam Lallana’s side are seventh out of eight in their group after two matches, with one draw and one defeat.

Saints drew 1-1 with Real Madrid at St Mary’s, then lost 2-0 to AS Monaco earlier this month.

Alongside the rearranged Leipzig game, they are also scheduled to play PSV Eindhoven on Thursday, 22 January.
