Barcelona supporters hoping to see Lamine Yamal return to action with Spain will have to wait a bit longer.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish attacker will not be available for the national team’s final World Cup warm-up match against Peru.

Lamine has taken another positive step in his recovery and has begun reintegrating into the group’s training step by step. However, he is still not ready for competitive action.

The 18-year-old participated in the early stages of Spain’s training session, taking part in the warm-ups and rondos alongside his teammates.

Peru match comes too soon

Lamine has been sidelined since the Celta Vigo game in April, suffering a muscle injury that forced him to miss the last six league games of the La Liga season.

Spain’s coaching staff are prioritising caution rather than rushing him back before the start of the World Cup. With La Roja’s first game of the tournament on 15 June, he still has time to build up his fitness.

Nico Williams and Victor Munoz are also expected to miss the Peru friendly alongside Lamine, but Spain will hope that their winger department sorts itself out in time for the group stage.

World Cup remains the main target

The encouraging news, both for Barcelona and Spain, is that Lamine’s recovery is progressing in the right direction.

Lamine is one of the most important attacking players for Spain and also one of the best on display at this World Cup. There is little value in risking his fitness by making him play in a friendly.

The focus now is firmly on ensuring he is fully recovered for the opening game against Cape Verde, and Luis de la Fuente will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that happens.
