Bulgaria begin their World Cup qualification campaign with a formidable opponent as they host Spain at the Vasil Levski National Stadium in Sofia this week.
The Lions entertain the European champions on home soil in what promises to be their toughest fixture in Group E.
Rodri makes his return to the Spanish squad after recovering from an ACL injury that kept him out for several months. The Manchester City midfielder and 2024 Ballon d’Or winner has been gradually reintegrated and brings crucial experience to Spain’s midfield.
Dani Carvajal is back in the fold after his own ACL recovery, providing stability at right-back for the European champions. The Real Madrid defender’s return comes at a perfect time as Spain begin their World Cup qualification campaign.
Gavi has been ruled out due to a knee injury sustained in training, with Barcelona confirming the midfielder will miss both September qualifiers. Joan García and Alejandro Baldé were surprisingly omitted from the squad despite strong early-season form with Barcelona.
Possible Spain starting XI: Unai Simón; Carvajal, Le Normand, Vivian, Cucurella; Rodri, Zubimendi, Pedri; Yamal, Morata, Nico Williams.
The match kicks off at 7:45pm BST on Thursday, 4 September.
The Bulgaria vs Spain match will be broadcast live in the UK exclusively via Amazon Prime Video pay-per-view.
