One of the most striking images from the La Liga triumph celebration parade of the FC Barcelona team was the waving of the Palestinian flag by the winger Lamine Yamal.
As was expected, this action by the Spaniard has generated all kinds of reactions. For instance, the Israeli Minister of Defense recently criticized the youngster for this action, and believed he was inciting people against the Jews.
However, Yamal’s waving of the Palestinian flag has also been supported by other notable figures. One of the most prominent among these is the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the head of the Spanish government took to X to throw his support behind the Blaugrana forward in this matter, as he wrote:
“Those who consider waving the flag of a State to be “inciting hatred” have either lost their judgment or been blinded by their own ignominy. Lamine has only expressed the solidarity with Palestine felt by millions of Spaniards. Another reason to be proud of him.”
It is definitely good to see such a powerful voice putting his weight behind Lamine Yamal in such a controversial matter.
It was definitely his right to raise his voice on such an important matter, but for now, one can hope that this matter would not take on too much of a toll on the player going forward.
