Liverpool's defensive line has been one of their major problem areas this season.
Almost every single defender that has been used by Slot this term has made a mistake or two that has cost the club some vital points.
And, although the performances of some players such as Milos Kerkez and Ibrahima Konate are finally starting to pick up, the damage has already been done.
This has caused the rumour mill to go into overdrive with The i Paper now reporting that Liverpool are leading the way to sign Bournemouth's Marcos Senesi this summer.
The Argentinian's contract is due to expire at the end of the season and, since he's not extending his stay with the Cherries, several clubs are trying to sign him.
Senesi is a talented footballer but, if he joined Liverpool in the summer, they'd then have six centre-backs among their ranks.
That is, as long as Konate extends his contract, of course.
And, since Liverpool hardly ever play a five at the back formation, Senesi's arrival could mean that Joe Gomez is finished at Liverpool.
Although Gomez is one of Slot's most versatile defenders, the Englishman is far too injury prone to be a regular starter.
Indeed, on his day the "special" defender can be one of the Premier League's best but due to his lack of consistency, the patience of fans is wearing thin.
The Reds have already sign Jeremy Jacquet ahead of the summer transfer window and with Virgil van Dijk, Giovanni Leoni, Konate and the Frenchman among their ranks, only one more centre-back is really needed.
And, on the face of things, it feels like Senesi will be the one to fulfil this role, especially since the Reds are now leading the way to sign him.
Of course, Gomez could be kept on as a back-up for another area of the pitch but, since AC Milan are bound to try and sign him again, it makes sense for Liverpool to move the Englishman on.
