Reports in Turkey claim Lionel Messi could consider a four-month spell at Galatasaray before the 2026 World Cup under special conditions.

Surprise rumours around Messi’s future

The name of Lionel Messi has been unexpectedly linked with possible move to Galatasaray despite the Argentine star being under contract with Inter Miami.

During the summer, speculation suggested Messi could leave the MLS club when his previous deal was due to end in late 2025.

However Messi responded by extending his stay in Miami until 2028.

Now Turkish media have reopened the discussion but with very unusual plan connected to Messi’s preparation for FIFA World Cup 2026 in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Galatasaray “Special Project” for four months

According to Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah, veteran commentator Levent Tüzemen said on A Spor that Galatasaray are exploring a short term agreement lasting only four month.

The idea would be to keep Messi fit without putting too much physical pressure on him before the World Cup.

Tüzemen explained that Messi believes the American schedule is demanding and does not want to arrive at the tournament carrying injury.

This proposal has been described as a “special project” rather than normal transfer.

Messi’s reported conditions

The reports claim Messi’s representatives have set strict terms if the move ever happens:

Messi would play no more than 12 match during the four-month period

All appearances would take place in Istanbul

He would not travel to away fixtures to reduce fatigue and injury risk

Matches would be played at Galatasaray’s home stadium, RAMS Park

Tüzemen also suggested that if Galatasaray reach the Turkish Cup final, that game could be included among the 12 planned match.
