Sporting CP expect Manchester United to make an offer for one of their emerging talents next year, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The Red Devils recently confirmed the appointment of Ruben Amorim as their new manager. He will take charge of his first game at Ipswich Town this weekend.

Amorim’s arrival has also increased speculation over potential signings, and Sporting reportedly believe United will make an offer for Geovany Quenda.

The 17-year-old made his senior debut under Amorim earlier this season, and he has already impressed with his performances in the right wing-back role.

United have been tracking his progress from the start of the season and could make an approach to reunite him with Amorim at Old Trafford.

Quenda would be a brilliant long-term signing

The Red Devils have focused on signing young talents under INEOS. They made a statement by landing Leny Yoro ahead of Real Madrid during the summer.

The club also signed Sekou Kone, Samuel Lusale and Chido Obi-Martin. The latter is one of the best Under-17 strikers in Europe.

Quenda has made a brilliant breakthrough with Sporting. He is a right winger but has been superb as a right wing-back for the reigning Portuguese champions.

A reunion with Amorim could be a realistic possibility. Quenda has shown plenty of maturity despite his age. He has won 64 percent of his duels with three recoveries per game.

The youngster has been exceptional with his work rate and has three goal contributions to his name.

His progress has led to comparisons to Arsenal star Bukayo Saka earlier in his career. It won’t be easy to prise him away and United may have to pay a significant transfer fee.

Quenda has a release clause worth £83 million in his contract, but United are preparing an opening bid of £33m for the teenager, who has been described as ‘very talented‘ by Amorim.

United or any Premier League club can’t register Quenda until he turns 18 on April 30 due to Brexit rules. However, they can negotiate a pre-transfer agreement in January.

If Quenda continues his good form in the coming months, United may have to pay a much higher figure than planned to secure his signature ahead of their fierce league rivals.

Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool are also keeping track of his progress.
