Sporting Lisbon will host reigning UEFA Champions League winners PSG for the first time ever in the competition’s history.
The Parisians sit third in the league phase table, 11 places above the Portuguese outfit, but only three points separate them.
Morten Hjulmand will miss the encounter due to suspension. Pedro Gonçalves remains sidelined with a muscle strain. The Portuguese giants have also been hampered by the absence of young winger Geovany Quenda, whose broken foot is expected to sideline him until mid-March. Defenders Ousmane Diomandé and Nuno Santos remain unavailable, whilst striker Fotis Ionnadis is out with a knee injury.
Despite the injury setbacks, Geny Catamo has returned to impressive form following the Africa Cup of Nations, scoring a brace in their dominant 3-0 victory over Casa Pia on January 16, 2026. Manager Rui Borges has emphasised the collective strength of his squad, stating: “We are a great team, where the collective is the star”.
PSG will operate without several key personnel for the trip to Portugal. Midfielder João Neves continues his recovery from a hamstring injury and will not travel, while midfielder Quentin Ndjantou also remains unavailable. Achraf Hakimi and midfielder Ibrahim Mbaye recently played the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, and they will not be available for this encounter as the match comes too soon for them to feature. Lucas Hernandez serves a suspension, whilst goalkeeper Matvey Safonov is recovering from injury. Ankle injury victim Kang-In Lee also misses out.
However, Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé, who netted a decisive brace in his team’s recent clinical 3-0 victory over Lille on January 16, 2026, is expected to feature prominently. Luis Enrique remarked ahead of the fixture: “Tuesday’s match is in an exceptional stadium against a tough team like Sporting. They’re a team with quality players who like to have the ball”.
Sporting showcased a commanding 3-0 triumph over Casa Pia at home on January 16, 2026, with Geny Catamo recording a brace and Daniel Bragança adding the third. This victory follows a 1-2 loss against Victoria de Guimares in the League Cup. Sporting currently sit at 14th position in the UCL with 10 points in six matches.
PSG come to this match after a 3-0 win against Lille in the domestic league, where they sit in second position with 42 points from 18 matches. However, they won just one out of their last three matches in the Champions League, including a goalless draw against Athletic Club. Luis Enrique’s men sit in third position in the UCL league table with 13 points from six matches.
