Thomas Frank has backed Cristian Romero’s abilities as a leader following another outspoken social media post from the Spurs skipper.
The Argentine took to social media again after the game against Manchester City to say it was “disgraceful” that Spurs had so few players available for the match.
Speaking earlier on Romero’s post, Frank defended his defender’s passion and desire to win though admitted it is not something he himself would have done.
And quizzed again on the 27-year-old’s social post, Frank was sympathetic. “I’m 52 years old. I think I’m pretty good at leadership. Can I get better every single day? Yes. Do I make mistakes? Maybe not every single day, but probably weekly,” he said.
“Romero is 27-years-old. He will still make mistakes going forward. As a leader, does he do a lot of good things? Yes.”

It is not the first time Romero has expressed strong opinions on social media. Earlier this season after the defeat to Bournemouth, Romero posted: “At times like this, it should be other people coming out to speak… but they don’t, as has been happening for several years now. They only show up when things are going well to tell a few lies.”
Speaking at the time, Frank said it was important not to make the same mistake twice and asked about those comments, he replied: “I think sometimes someone does more than one mistake. We’ve dealt with it internally.”
Romero signed a new four-year deal with Spurs back in August, but asked if he expects him to stay at the club beyond this season, Frank said: “That’s a question I have no idea about. Right now he is the captain and it’s a long-term contract, and we signed a new contract with him this summer.”
Spurs brought in midfielder Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid in January for a fee of around £35m, as well as youngster Souza from Santos.
But Frank was keen to stress that injuries have been the main reason behind Spurs’ lack of options of late, and not a lack of transfer activity.
“I know the owners are very ambitious,” he said. “I’m not in doubt that we will see that going forward.
“I think it’s all contextual. Right now, this moment in time, of course we have a few injuries. If we had four injuries less, I think it will feel less (pressure). I’m not in doubt of that.
“Of course injuries doesn’t help but it’s part of football. If we didn’t have that, I’m pretty sure we would feel differently.”
