Tottenham Hotspur are once again making moves in the transfer market, with Thomas Frank reportedly keen to bolster his midfield options. According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Spurs have shown “strong interest” in Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand, a player with significant links to Ruben Amorim.
Since arriving at Spurs, Frank has worked to establish balance in the centre of the pitch. He already has talents like Lucas Bergvall, Pape Matar Sarr, Archie Gray and Rodrigo Bentancur, while the addition of Joao Palhinha has added steel and consistency. Yet the Dane remains eager for more.
Conor Gallagher has been mentioned as a target, but it is Hjulmand who has caught Frank’s attention. The manager is said to “believe” that his compatriot could play a crucial role in strengthening Spurs’ midfield.
Hjulmand has been central to Sporting’s system, making 65 appearances, scoring six goals, and assisting five more in a defensive midfield role. His blend of physical presence and tactical awareness has drawn attention across Europe.
Fichajes reports that Spurs are prepared to place an offer of €60million (£52.3m) to secure him, though his £68million release clause could complicate negotiations. The report adds that the lure of the Premier League may be “irresistible” for the 25-year-old.
Manchester United remain in the background. Given Amorim’s admiration for his former player. Hjulmand is still on their radar. Spurs may need to move quickly to avoid a bidding battle with Old Trafford.

Should Tottenham succeed, it would not only be a coup over United but also a statement of intent from Frank early in his tenure.
From a Tottenham fan’s perspective, this report will spark a mixture of excitement and cautious optimism. The midfield already looks stronger this season, but there’s a sense among supporters that one more addition could take the side to the next level.
Hjulmand fits the bill perfectly. He’s a hard-working midfielder who can shield the defence while also contributing further up the pitch. Fans know that Spurs have sometimes struggled to control games against elite opposition, and adding a player with Hjulmand’s ball-winning and positional intelligence could be a game-changer.
Of course, the €60million price tag raises questions. Tottenham fans are no strangers to inflated fees, and many will point out that investing such a sum must guarantee immediate impact. Comparisons will be drawn with Palhinha, who has slotted in seamlessly. If Hjulmand can replicate that effect, supporters will see it as money well spent.
Another element for fans is the rivalry with Manchester United. Spurs have often been outbid or gazumped by United in past transfer windows. Winning this race would feel like a symbolic victory – proof that under Frank, Spurs are more decisive and ambitious in the market.
Ultimately, supporters will back the move if it materialises. Hjulmand isn’t just another name; he’s a player with the potential to solidify Tottenham’s top-four challenge and bring balance to a midfield that still has room to evolve.
