FC St. Pauli have confirmed that their Bundesliga match against RB Leipzig, originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon, has been postponed due to severe winter weather in Northern Germany.

“Given the current weather, with heavy snowfall and snowdrifts, the safety of the venue and the safe conduct of the event in compliance with all operational regulations cannot be guaranteed,” said the club in a statement, explaining the decision.

"FC St. Pauli staff and the involved service providers were working continuously for several days to clear the pitch, stands, and access areas of snow and ice – sometimes repeatedly from scratch. However, clearing the roof areas proved almost impossible.

"In addition, assessments from authorities, gathered through numerous discussions over the past days, explicitly recommended canceling the match given the overall situation in Hamburg. Key factors included the additional burden on emergency services, the medical infrastructure, and the continued significant risks and restrictions in the surrounding traffic areas."

Further information regarding the rescheduled date and additional details will be announced as soon as possible.
