FC Barcelona came into the game against Real Sociedad knowing that they had to secure the three points against the Basque club. Real Madrid had lost their game against Real Betis on Saturday night, but Atletico Madrid beat Athletic Bilbao 1-0 and were at the top of the table.

Hansi Flick’s men impressed with a very good performance on the night at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium as they beat the Basque club 4-0. Imanol Algaucil’s team suffered a red card very early on in the game and that helped Barcelona on the night.

What Barcelona did on the night was not just get past Real Sociedad but they absolutely dominated them from start to finish. The stats, as per SofaScore, show just how much the Catalan club deserved the win on the night.

There is an age-old adage that goes ‘stats don’t tell you the full story’ but maybe, tonight, it does. Barcelona understandably had 76% possession of the ball on the night, especially with Real Sociedad being one man down for the majority of it.

Barcelona created five big chances to Sociedad’s none and registered an astonishing 33 shots to zero. Szczęsny had nothing to do, making zero saves, while the Basque club’s keeper was forced into six. Additionally, the Catalans won 12 corners without conceding a single one in return.

Hansi Flick’s men completed 746 passes to 228 by Sociedad and ultimately managed to score four goals. Had they not taken the foot off the accelerator, Barcelona might have managed to score even more but they decided to preserve energy for the Benfica game.

It was one of those games that the German coach would be very grateful for as the game against Benfica could prove to be high-intensity on Tuesday. Thus, it helped that Barcelona got past today’s game without breaking a sweat.

The result means that Barcelona continue to be one of the few teams who are unbeaten since the start of 2025. It has been an excellent performance from Hansi Flick’s men so far this year and let’s hope they can continue in the same vein going forward.
