Rangers have sacked Russell Martin as their manager after 123 days in charge.

Martin’s final game was a 1-1 draw at Falkirk on Sunday, with Henry Cartwright salvaging a point for the hosts after Bojan Miovski’s first-half goal.

The former Southampton boss required a police escort away from the stadium as Rangers supporters surrounded the team’s bus following the humiliating Scottish Premiership defeat.

Martin took over the club in June and endured a disastrous start to the new season.

According to the Guardian, Steven Gerrard is under serious consideration for a return to Rangers.

Gerrard managed the Scottish titans between 2018 and 2021, and guided them to their first Premiership title in 2020-21 – their only championship since 2011.

He left the club to join Aston Villa midway through the following season, but survived less than a year.

Gerrard’s next managerial spell in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Ettifaq was also unsuccessful. He was sacked after recording just 23 wins from 59 matches.

However, despite his underwhelming record, the former Liverpool midfielder will fancy his chances of reviving Rangers’ fortunes.
