According to Coluna Do Fla, the STJD has opted against suspending Flamengo’s Evertton Araújo after his dismissal against Corinthians, leaving the midfielder free to play in the Brasileirão.
The incident occurred seven minutes into the second half when Araújo challenged Breno Bidon, touched the ball first, then stepped on the Corinthians player’s foot. Referee Rodrigo José Pereira de Lima showed a straight red, and although VAR invited him to review it, he upheld his decision.
Araújo had been cited under Article 254, section II, of the CBJD, which covers reckless or imprudent play in a challenge. Flamengo argued the midfielder merely contested the ball and did not intend to harm his opponent.
Following a unanimous vote, the tribunal chose not to impose any punishment. The player had faced a possible suspension of up to six matches.
With Araújo available, Flamengo face Fluminense on Saturday 11 at the Maracanã in the 11th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. Kick-off is at 18:30 Brasília time on pay-per-view channel Premiere.
