Strasbourg have appointed Portuguese coach Hugo Oliveira as head coach on Sunday, filling the vacancy left by Gary O'Neil, who departed for Ipswitch Town in the Premier League.

The club said in a statement that Oliveira has consistently helped players improve individually and that his qualities align with Racing's long-term sporting vision.

Oliveira, 47, spent many years as an assistant, specialising in goalkeepers. He worked in the Premier League for seven years before taking his first senior role in 2024 at Famalicao, who finished fifth in the Portuguese league last season.

He becomes Racing's fourth head coach since BlueCo bought the club in June 2023.

Patrick Vieira was first, then Liam Rosenior, who left in January for Chelsea, the American consortium's flagship club. Gary O'Neil followed for a few months before moving on.
