After Bayern Munich fought intensively to sign Nick Woltemade, Stuttgart have now put an end to the forward’s departure. Speaking prior to their Franz Beckenbauer Supercup defeat, VfB CEO Alexander Wehrle put his foot down.

“Nick Woltemade is our player and he will play for us this year,” Wehrle told Sky Germany. “The case is closed. Bayern know that.” After failing to reach an agreement in their latest round of negotiations, Stuttgart had set Bayern a deadline of Saturday’s Supercup clash to meet their valuation of Woltemade, reportedly around €75m.

In their midweek discussions, Danny Bachmann, Woltemade’s agent, claimed that Bayern Munich were ready to offer a fee in excess of €60m, a sum that Stuttgart seemed willing to accept before a u-turn, where they then demanded €75m. With no further offer submitted, Wehrle is now adamant that Woltemade will be playing for Stuttgart this season.

That comes after Sebastian Hoeneß named Woltemade in his Stuttgart XI to play Bayern Munich on Saturday evening. The 23-year-old had two excellent opportunities, one of which was denied by a sublime Manuel Neuer save while another saw his header fly over the bar.
