Lucas Stassin (20) defied expectations and remained at AS Saint-Étienne last summer. The Belgian centre-forward was one of two bright sparks (the other being Zuriko Davitashvili) in the Verts team that were relegated to Ligue 2.
However, now owned by Kilmer Sports Ventures, Saint-Étienne did not need to sell their prized asset. As a result, despite advances from numerous clubs, including Paris FC, who were prepared to pay €29m, he stayed. This season, he has four goals in 13 appearances in France’s second division.
As the January transfer window approaches, he is once again garnering interest. This time, it is VfB Stuttgart who are interested in Stassin, Florian Plettenberg understands. Initial talks have already taken place, but ASSE’s valuation of the striker, thought to be between €35-40m, could prove a sticking point.
Should the deal prove difficult to pull off, the Bundesliga side do have alternatives lined up, including former Stade Rennais striker Arnaud Kalimuendo, now at Nottingham Forest, and Jeremy Arevalo.
