Sunderland have addressed another concern over season ticket renewals, with a positive resolution for Karen Jacques’s family.
According to Sunderland Echo, Jacques questioned the lack of flexibility between corporate and general admission after her mother, Sylvia Pickard, found she could qualify for a free over-85s season ticket, having held one for more than three years. No reduction could initially be applied in corporate seating, leaving an expected bill of more than £2,000.
Fearing they might lose tickets altogether, the family stayed put while talks continued. A deal is now agreed, with Pickard and another relative moving to Block U1 next season.
Earlier alternatives, including concourse seats and positions near the front, were rejected due to stairs in one case and exposure to bad weather in the other. The family viewed the Block U1 seats at the Stadium of Light and accepted them.
Jacques said the family were pleased to have the matter sorted, though believed it should have been handled earlier so they might have sat together and reduced the number of stairs for her mother.
Long-serving supporter Steven Poppleton also received a positive update after struggling to move from a premium area to general admission following the death of his father, George. He later received a call from the club apologising and offering general admission tickets for next season.
Not every renewal case has been resolved, but recent weeks have seen the club contact fans directly and progress made in several situations.
