Sunderland’s figure is more than 7,000 up on 2024/25, their best since 2001/02 at 46,745, and the fourth-highest in their history. Manchester United lead the league-wide table on 73,962, ahead of West Ham United on 62,454. Tottenham Hotspur are still drawing 60,900 despite a shock relegation battle.

Chelsea, Aston Villa and Leeds United follow the North East pair, their grounds holding fewer supporters than St James’ Park and the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland are aiming to complete a league double over Eddie Howe’s side after December’s 1-0 win at the Stadium of Light, settled by Nick Woltemade’s own goal. St James’ Park is rarely forgiving, and the home crowd is among the loudest, while Sunderland’s travelling support is typically vocal.
