Sunderland supporters have delivered a warm verdict on the new 1937-inspired Hummel home kit after Tuesday’s reveal, with sales due to start from eight am on Wednesday.

According to Sunderland Echo, the red and white stripes are paired with a button-up collar, a retro crest, and black shorts and socks, details that shaped the early online reaction.

Fans praised the club and manufacturer for embracing history and the finer touches, frequently highlighting the pop-button collar and placing the shirt among Hummel’s strongest since the brand returned to Wearside.

Some felt it could pip the popular Championship home shirt, while others suggested it might become an all-time modern favourite, reflecting momentum behind Hummel’s recent heritage-led designs.

The return of black shorts and socks also landed well, with one supporter imagining it would look superb under the lights against Italian teams.

Another linked the release to the club’s return to European football and to a recent retro Elvis shirt, hoping both bring good fortune in the Premier League and in Europe, and one asked about Europa League name sets.

Not everyone was convinced, with one critic wishing the crest colour matched the blue of 1937 and another preferring last season’s range, unhappy with the badge and the pink change strip.
